Interdisciplinary Supervisory Biologist/Physical Scientist

The major duties of the Interdisciplinary Supervisory Biologist/Physical Scientist position include, but are not limited to the following:
-Provide guidance and leadership by promoting a productive teamwork environment, fostering collaboration between Branch employees and park and regional staff, and assisting senior management and other Divisions; -Oversee the preparation of evidentiary materials and testimony, including scientific and technical reports prepared by staff and/or contractors, for use by Office of the Solicitor and Department of Justice attorneys in court and administrative proceedings involving the acquisition, adjudication, and/or protection of NPS water rights; -Work with the Office of the Solicitor and Department of Justice attorneys in developing legal and technical strategies to acquire and/or protect federal and state water rights; -Represents the NPS in dealings with federal, state, and local agencies or private organizations for the acquisition and/or protection of NPS water rights and water-dependent resources. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/06/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either full-time (or 40 hours a week) or part-time with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For the General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences 0401 Series:
A.Degree:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. Combination of education and
Experience:
Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For the General Physical Science 1301 Series:
A. Degree:
physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. -OR- B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes all of the following activities such as:
(1) Experience working with the law, policies, practices, jurisdictions, and application of science related to Federal and state water management and restoration of water and aquatic resources and state and federal water rights. (2) Experience working with water resources, watershed management, water science, and/or surface and groundwater resources and experience with applying the theories and practices of water resource protection, water rights and water and watershed management. (3) Experience with the acquisition, beneficial use, quantification, monitoring, reporting, and enforcement of state and Federal water rights. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
